Ber of Bolechov (Birkenthav, Ber)

(1723-1805)

   Galician writer. As one of the first maskilim, he took part in a debate with the Frankists at Lvov in 1759. He wrote a polemic against the Shabbetaians and the Frankists. His memoirs are a major source for the study of the economic and cultural conditions of Galician Jews in this period.
